The NYPD is still trying to solve a bizarre and random clubbing attack — involving the kind of long brush used to clean barbecues — that sent a 78-year-old man to the sidewalk in Manhattan on Monday.
The victim was walking in front of 393 West 49th St., not far from his Hell’s Kitchen residence, at about 2 a.m. when a male stranger approached him from behind and struck him in the head with a “wooden grill brush,” police said.
The suspect “said nothing” and kept walking east on West 49th Street, the victim told ABC New York.
The victim crumbled to the ground and was left bruised and in pain. EMS took him to Mount Sinai hospital in stable condition, police said.
The NYPD released a video of the wanted man and a photo from the scene of the crime prior to the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
