AKRON, Ohio — Cleveland Clinic Akron General announced Monday that they will be receiving $700,000 for upgrades as a part of the Ohio capital budget bill that was approved this past Friday.

Akron General is just one of a small number of providers that offer inpatient psychiatric care in Northeast Ohio. The facility treats patients from a wide area including Summit, Medina, Stark, Portage, Wayne and Tuscarawas counties.

“The pandemic has underscored the great need to address mental health issues, both in terms of treatment and facilities,” said Akron general President Brian Harte, M.D. “We greatly appreciate the state’s support of our efforts to provide the highest level of safety for our patients.”

The grant money will come from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Akron General was just one of a small number of hospitals in Ohio to be awarded money for projects through the state capital budget this year.

Blueprints for the renovations are currently underway. The hospital will continue to operate at a reduced capacity while the upgrades are being completed.
