Cleveland Police: Mother fatally shot with daughters in car, suspect in custody


CLEVELAND — A 34-year-old man is in police custody Saturday following the death of a Cleveland woman. 

According to reports, police responded to  I-77 South at Harvard Avenue for reports of a woman shot inside of a car around 1 a.m. At the scene, Newburgh Heights Police provided first aid to the 33-year-old woman who suffered multiple gun shot wounds. 

The victim, who has not yet been identified, was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Police report the woman was inside of the car with her two daughters, ages eight months and 12 years old, when she was shot by the suspect. Both girls were taken to MetroHealth for evaluation and were not physically injured. 

The suspect, whose identity has also not been released, was taken into police custody and a firearm was secured by police. 

The incident remains under investigation.
