Fortnite returns on iOS via Xbox Cloud Gaming for free

Fortnite fans can now use Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming platform to access the game on iOS, Android devices, and Windows PCs. Fortnite developer Epic Games and Microsoft have teamed up to bring Fortnite games to Xbox Cloud Gaming, hence making it playable on PC, iOS, and iPad devices via streaming. According to Xbox, Fortnite is now available on supported browser-enabled devices for free with Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta).

This means, for those who love to play Fortnite, only need two things to play in cloud-supported markets, a Microsoft account or an iOS, iPadOS, Android phone or tablet, or Windows PC with internet access. Fortnite was removed from Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store due to their battle with Epic Games over app store fees. However, it will now be available for iOS users in over 26 countries via the Cloud Gaming service.

How to play Fortnite on iOS for free

To play Fortnite on your iOS device, all you need to have is a Microsoft account and an iOS, iPadOS, Android phone or tablet, or Windows PC with internet access. The game is playable via touch controls and supports gamepads.

Notably, the game does not require any membership fee or installation. Follow these simple steps to begin now:

  1. Visit Xbox.com/play on your web browser
  2. Sign in to your Microsoft account

And that is it! You can now join your friends and be a part of the next Victory Royale.

Microsoft says that for now, it will evaluate feedback, but it plans to bring more free-to-play titles to the cloud. For Epic, it gets its game back in front of users who are not able to install the game. or who just want to play when they’re away from their main gaming machine — and unlike GeForce Now’s a closed beta, the web version is on Android, not just iOS. (There was an Android app.) And for Microsoft, it can bring more people into the Xbox ecosystem, make them aware of its cloud gaming capabilities, and maybe sell a Game Pass subscription or two.
