Key Specifications:
- Instagram confirms that it is testing a change that turns videos into reels.
-
If a user’s account is public, other people will be able to use their Reels for remixes.
-
Instagram is yet to announce when the change will be widely available
“We are testing this feature as part of our efforts to simplify and improve the video experience on Instagram,” a spokesperson from Meta was quoted as saying in an email.
A screenshot posted on Twitter by social media consultant Matt Navarra showed that people who are part of the test will see an in-app message that says “video posts are now shared as Reels”.
Instagram will soon let you convert videos into Reels
The message indicates that if your account is public and you post a video that ends up being turned into a Reel, anyone can discover your Reel and use your original audio to create their Reel, the report said.
Only friends would see your video if your profile is private, but other users can still create a remix with your Reel and download it as part of their remix. The only way to ensure nobody uses your Reel for remixes is to turn the option off in Settings or to disable it for each video you post. However, users have a choice to turn off remixing from settings.
The Company does not reveal the release date
Instagram is yet to confirm when the new feature that turns video posts into Instagram Reels will roll out to all users. The social media platform is also expected to soon reveal what will happen to the video posts that already exist on the platform.
Meta is intent on pushing Reels to a larger audience and turning video posts into Reels will help the app become more unified in its design approach and usability.
