Every county in Ohio now exceeds the CDC’s threshold for high incidence, which is 100 cases per 100,000 residents.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — A travel advisory continues to be in effect for people coming into Ohio from other states with testing rates of 15% or higher for COVID-19.
The recommendation is that people self-quarantine for 14 days after coming to Ohio from one of those states. The list is being updated weekly.
According to the Ohio Department of Health, the Buckeye State’s positivity for COVID-19 remains above 15%. The ODH recommends that Ohioans remain home except for necessary trips.
As of December 23, other states at 15% or higher are:
- Alabama
- Arkansas
- Idaho
- Iowa
- Kansas
- Kentucky
- Mississippi
- Missouri
- Nevada
- Oklahoma
- Pennsylvania
- South Dakota
- Tennessee
- Texas
- Utah
Gov. Mike DeWine says people should self-quarantine at home in or a hotel. This applies to visitors as well as people who live in Ohio returning from vacation or business travel. The governor has said that that while the advisory isn’t an order, it’s recommended that it be followed.
Meanwhile on Thursday, the Ohio Department of Health reported that 84 of the state’s 88 counties are at red level in the COVID-19 Public Health Advisory System. Four counties (Hocking, Vinton, Gallia and Monroe) are at level three orange.
The ODH adds that every county in Ohio now exceeds the CDC’s threshold for high incidence, which is 100 cases per 100,000 residents.
At the beginning of August, the statewide average of cases per capita during the previous two weeks was at 101. As of this week’s update, the statewide average is 769 cases per 100,000 residents during the past two weeks. There also are 7 counties that are at 1000 or more, which means that at least 1 out of every 100 residents has tested positive for COVID during the past two weeks and are at risk of spreading it to others.
The ODH also reports that at the beginning of August, about 12% of Ohio’s ICU patients were COVID-19 positive, or 1 out of every 8. Now, that number is up to 31%. That means that today, 1 out of every 3 ICU patients is COVID-19 positive.
