Woman runs over pedestrian construction worker in Summit County

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — One woman is in custody today after allegedly running over a construction worker with her car in Coventry Township.

According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Department, the accident occurred on Wednesday morning around 6 a.m. in the 1000 area of Robinson Avenue.

Police say that just before the crash, a construction crew was setting up a work-zone in the eastbound lane of Robinson Ave. The Summit County Sheriff’s Department says that the eastbound lane was blocked by a vehicle to advise drivers to avoid the work-zone.

A 52-year-old construction worker from Euclid was directing traffic in the westbound lane when a 62-year-old female driver heading westbound struck the worker. The worker was transported to Akron General for life-threatening injuries, including severe head trauma.

At this time, drugs, alcohol, and speed are not suspected to be a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Summit Metro Crash Response Team.
